Wild Sheep Society of BC’s 2014 Annual Convention
Featuring internationally known authority on wildlife conservation SHANE MAHONEY

Shane Mahoney – Shane is considered one of today’s leading international authorities on wildlife conservation, and is beyond question one of the conservation movement’s most eloquent spokesmen. Born and raised in Newfoundland, Shane is a rare combination of scientist, historian, and philosopher widely known as a lecturer on environmental and resource conservation issues. Formerly the Head of Wildlife Research for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, he also founded the Institute for Biodiversity, Ecosystem Science and Sustainability (IBES) in collaboration with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Shane serves on the board of Conservation Force, is the Global Vice-Chair for the Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group of the IUCN and is currently the Founder and Executive Director of Conservation Visions:  http://www.conservationforce.org/directorsmahoney.html. He is a recognized expert on the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, a framework originally established by Dr. Valerius Geist that is firmly entrenched within conservation debates today, and he is widely credited with spearheading outreach efforts on this concept. A committed hunter and fisherman, Shane lectures widely throughout Canada and the US on the future of hunting and fishing, and the role that hunters and anglers have played in conserving our wildlife legacy. Shane brings a unique perspective to wildlife conservation issues that has motivated and inspired audiences around the world.

The Wild Sheep Society of BC's first ever “Hunt of Lifetime” raffle!

With mounting pressure on sheep habitat and ongoing disease risk from domestic to wild sheep throughout our province, it has never been more important to protect our wild herds. We believe the proceeds from this raffle will provide a fundamental contribution towards our ongoing wild sheep conservation and enhancement efforts and will springboard the WSSBC to the next level as a respected conservation organization!
